As i previously mentoned i would like to have services like this in Trinidad. We need to do some more of this in order to avoid parents
Counceling I believe is absolutelty necessay for single parents, as drepession is a real and serious issue. I can honestly say that every person that I have asked about their post hospital visit after having their baby had the same thing to say, that their was no visit from their district nurse.
One of the young ladies whom I interviewed had a complete mental break down as she was not prepared for life as single parent, it was so extreme for her that she ended up at the mental facility and as a result had to have constant supervision with the baby as she was unwilling to care for the child. She overcame her comdition with the support of a nurse that her parents hired to assisit her and with the support of family.
I also intervied a teenage boy whos mother suffers from depression, life for him was not easy as he has to take care of himself his little brother and his mother there are days when he would have to abscent from school to take care of his mother. He was quite reserved quiet and soft spoken. His way of dealing with is was adding laughter to it. Inspit of this he is an excelent, inteligent young man and is doing quite well in school.
We have seen time and time again parents who would have had temporary lapse of judgement because of how overwhelming raising a child is, as a result of this serious bodily harm would have been done to their children, even death in some cases right here in our beautiful Trinidad
